Nehru Children's Museum, Kolkata – kids day out

Rabindrasadan metro station or Exide more is one of the busiest areas in Kolkata. But a number of important places like Nandan (film centre of West Bengal govt.), Academy of Fine Arts, Rabindrasadan, St. Paul's Cathedral, Calcutta Club, Birla Planetarium, Nehru Children's Museum etc. are at a stone's throw distance from here.

        Let's have a sneakpeek on Nehru Children's Museum, founded by Sri Jugal Srimal, which is a must visit place for kids.

• How to go: Take a bus (GOVT BUS such as AC 5, AC 6, S7 and many more private buses also) from Howrah station to Exide or take a metro ride for Rabindrasadan metro station. The museum is just near the four point crossing.

• What to see: A large and unique collection of dolls, toys of India and other countries etc. A superb art gallery is here. Stories of the Ramayana and Mahabharata are depicted here in unique manner, i.e., miniature model of god, temples, demons, trees and other mythological objects are demonstrated here, which is very useful for kids to understand those stories.

       Exhibitions of dolls and many other things of different countries are held in the winter.

• Cultural Activities: Special classes, workshops and competitions on music, dance, recitation, drama, painting for children and teenagers are held here. Information may be obtained by a simple visit or a click on their website.

• Timing: Closed on Monday and Tuesday. Open on other days from 11am to 7pm.

• Entry fee: ₹.10/- for students, ₹.20/- for others.

• Lift not available for visitors. Staircases are to be used. Parents are to be careful so that toys, dolls and other objects exhibited here are not touched. Peace inside the museum must be maintained.
